Only the Slant Six and Chryslers small block V8´s were available for the ´72-´74 Challengers. - Then the 110HP six-cylinder engine was dropped for the ´73 model and the 318ci equipped with a Carter BBD carburator, 3 speed floor-mounted manual transmission and 3.23 axle ratio became the basic model with moderate 150 HP.

The more performance oriented 340/360ci engines came with 4bbl ThermoQuad carburator, steel crank, modified heads and dual plane intakes as well as dual exhaust pipes and offered 240/245 HP and higher torque. The V8-engines are belonging to Chrysler LA-Engine series that was already introduced in 1964. From 1973 on all Chrysler models received electronic ignition and electric assisted choke, which was before part of the ´72 340ci engine option. Manymodels
